The Japanese giant Toyota is set to launch its car for 2017 World Rally Championship

World Rally Championship is one of the most awaited events in the motoring history. Auto manufacturers around the globe are always keen to introduce at least one vehicle which represents them in this world class event.

For all of you who don’t know about the history of the WRC team, it won last three manufacturer titles. Toyota secured 43 glorious wins in those years with their iconic cars like the GT-Four, Celica Twincam Turbo and the Corolla WRC. Carlos Sainz and Juha Kankkunen were among those lucky drivers who contributed a lot in these wins

What we have learnt from the reliable source is that Toyota is planning to bring in its new WRC entry for the year 2016 which will be based on the next-generation Yaris. It will use a 1.6 litre inline turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota engine which is going to develop over 224kW.

Ako Toyoda, Toyota’s CEO for the past few years has been seen driving a Toyota 86 in WRC under the nickname Morizo. His love for rally cars is the main motivation behind Toyota’s return to WRC and now Toyota need to sell at least 2500 units of Yaris to qualify for entry in the 2017 WRC.

Toyota is also working on a 2.0 litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engine which will develop 175kW of power and torque of 350Nm. A six-speed manual transmission would be the best option when mated with 1.5 litre petrol engine churning out 80kW and 141Nm of torque.
