Practical driving tests are set to become easy as reverse around the corner and three point turn tests are dropped from the list of assessments. This massive shake up is the first time in last 20 years that DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standard Agency) has decided to change things. After these changes are implemented, learners may be asked to reverse out the vehicle from busy parking or they might have to pull up on the left or right of the road even before re-joining the flow of the traffic.
New learners may also be required to get instructions from the satellite navigation systems in future practical tests. It means you do not need to follow the road signs but satellite navigation system. Independent test timing has been increased from 10 minutes to 20 minutes.
Learners may also have to answer a couple of safety questions during the driving. For example, why your engine rattles at low speed, or they may be asked to answer that how you would start windscreen heaters on the rear screen while driving?
A spokesman from Drivers and Vehicle Standard Authority said that they are carrying out research to explore the real life experience from driving test. The authority is looking to pull out real life experience from driving tests.
The Driving Instructors Association has also appreciated these initiatives from the government to facilitate the driving tests. Carly Brookfield, chief executive of DIA said that their organisation is keen about the opportunity it has to evolve the driving tests. They are also eager to evolve the driving test to the level where it will reflect more real life driving and road risks etc. where the instructors will be able to judge the candidates more closely, on the bases of road risks and real life driving on the busy UK roads
However, the elimination of the three point turn and reversing the vehicle out of car parking are the most important manoeuvers in the real life that motorists face. What do you think about the elimination of these two techniques, that how our future drivers be able to manage in the busy parking places and manoeuvre around sharp turns?
