Toyota released Prius back in 1997 and became the pioneer of hybrid cars, it was the first-generation of hybrid cars at that time. The world’s view to look at the internal combustion engine has changed ever since. The Toyota Motor had sold more than a million Prius models only in Europe since 1997.
The Japanese automakers are working hard to bring the zero-emissions cars for the world and Toyota wins the race. Toyota has crossed another milestone by introducing “Toyota Mirai” to the world. The Japanese word “Mirai” means the “future”. The Mirai is a hydrogen fuel cell car as claimed by the Toyota, basically the car runs on electricity produced by a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen, the hydrogen is taken from the tank whereas oxygen from air.
The produced electricity is then supplied to power a motor in front wheels, almost a similar principle had been found in Hyundai ix35 FCV but with variations. It is important to note that the Mirai could run by 300-miles with a one full tank, which make it the most fuel efficient cars as compared with the traditional Toyota engine cars.
The Toyota motor has made real hard efforts to make this dream true, the company has done years of research and trials to build a Mirai for the world. The Mirai is 48% lighter while 26% more powerful than FCH-adv concept, the Toyota developed FCH back in 2008, so the Mirai is not just incremental addition instead it is a revolutionary achievement by the Japanese automaker giant. The Mirai has power of 153bhp, although it’s not cool, but give enough power to the car to attain speed momentum in a couple of seconds which is quite impressive for a dry car.
Mirai remains completely quiet during drive on the roads because of the use of state of the art technology, the automaker has used foam insulating material inside the body frame and has fitted acoustic glass so Mirai stays calm even at the speed of 80mph.
Apart from body frame, the Toyota has used sound-absorbing material for the door mirrors, which reduces wind noise to a minimum, some more sophisticated material has been absorbed under bonnet and wings. The Mirai has many safety and other innovative features such as automatic emergency braking, heated rear seats, touch screen navigation, safety kit and blind spot monitoring.
Its high quality interior is second to none. A fine leather has been used for steering wheel, seats and dashboard which makes Mirai a luxurious car. The Toyota Motor has planned to market it as a D-segment saloon.
In fact the price is quite higher in the beginning, the Toyota motor has set the price of £66,000 for its revolutionary “Mirai”. It is to note that the government incentive schemes are on the way which will actually reduce the price by £15,000 but no confirmation about incentive schemes have been made yet.
