This is for the first time when Honda is facing issues at the mass level, it’s not a recall regarding Honda engines because they manufacture the most reliable engines and vehicles across the globe. It’s all about the vendor, who delivers airbags to Honda. It has been announced that Honda is looking to recall more 21 million vehicles related to the Takata airbag issues.
According to the New York Times, Tetsuo Imamura, the vice president of Honda has confirmed that the recall will be issued soon. This announcement is the part of the previously announced recall under the guidelines of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration earlier this month.
The NHTSA is working on the security of the motorists who have vehicles powered by Takata airbags. The national safety administration has announced that they are about to expand the area of recalls and including more models in the list.
There will be around 35 million to 40 million vehicles in the U.S. and Honda is the largest victim of Takata airbags. They are recalling 21 million vehicles.
In the U.S. only there are more than 68 million vehicles affected by the bad Takata inflators. According to some survey companies, it is almost a quarter or even more number of total vehicles in the U.S.
The chief executive of Honda global did not specify that how many cars exactly will be recalled in the U.S. out of those 21 million in total but it is confirmed the total number of recalls at Honda only will reach to hefty 51 million vehicles globally.
Although Takata supplies inflators and airbags to many automakers but Honda is the largest customer of the airbag manufacturer that’s why Honda has been hit very hardly during this recall thing across the globe.
The Japanese automaker has set aside around 2.45 billion dollars to fix the issue in their cars related to Takata airbags. Honda has stated that the total expense rate has been reached to around 4 billion dollars since March. These recalls caused an imperative decrease in the profits of the Japanese automaker and the figures fallen down by $3.2 billion for last year.
