The Department for Transport (DfT) has made a plan to cope up with the overcharging of fuel prices by service stations along the motorway, the DfT has placed sign boards displaying the fuel prices on different fuel service stations on the M5 between Exeter and Bristol.
The movement will help to eliminate the practice of overcharging of fuels across the motorway, it will ensure standard fuel prices for motorists while driving on motorways. Initially the plan will be implemented by the end of this year, however the plan will be extended further in 2016. The digital sign boards will display the fuel prices on five different service stations on the M5 between Exeter and Bristol.
According to details, The DfT has found that motorway service stations charge extra 15p per litre as against the standard practice across the UK. The Auto Express also found the details of fuel prices on the M4, Auto Express found that service station near Berks has been charging 120.9p per litre whereas another service 70 miles down on the M4 has been charging 119.9p per litre for unleaded. Therefore, the DfT has stepped in to ensure standard fuel prices at all service stations.
The spokesperson of DFT told, the purpose of the plan is to ensure fuel price transparency across the UK. Some of the fuel service stations on the motorway are involved in wrongdoing and snatching the money from motorists.
The authority will discourage them by displaying digital signs and highlight the fuel service stations who are charging standard fuel prices across the motorway. The authority is planning to implement similar signs across 23, 00-mile motorway network.
