It was not long ago when the executives from GM testified to Congress about the recall of 2.6 million cars that caused loss of precious human lives, being said, and leaving as much as 13 people dead. That was not the only bad news for GM, the company has to make another massive recall for faulty power steering problem and the number reaches to 1.3 million cars. According to GM this recall is not correlated to any deaths at all, rather it is the continuity of a previous recall for said problem. We at GM don’t know why the bad ignition switches were left there in our vehicles for more than a decade, said chief executive Mary Barra.
This quarter, these recalls will cost GM at least $750 million but GM is very determined to coupe up with all these issues. Following models are covered in this new recall:
Pontiac G6: All model year of 2005, and some model year 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Saturn Aura: Some model year 2008 and 2009.
Saturn Ion: All model year 2004 to 2007.
Chevrolet HHR (Non-Turbo): Some model year 2009 and 2010.
Chevrolet Malibu Maxx: All Model year 2004, 2005 and some model year 2006
Chevrolet Malibu: All model year 2004, 2005, some model year 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Chevrolet Cobalt: Some model year 2010.
An electrically boosted power steering system, which is prone to failure with or without a warning, is used in all these vehicles. The steering failure does not mean it does not work at all, it just requires far more effort to operate than usual. During 2004-07, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received 846 complaints of power-steering loss; this probe was never resolved though. GM is committed to offer a lifetime warranty for 405,000 Chevy HHRs and Saturn Ions on steering parts.
