It is confirmed that Volkswagen has really cheated its customers very brutally and it was not a publicity stunt by the way. What Volkswagen has done to its customers was an act of deceitful behaviour of its management or someone else but the actual question is that how many cars were actually affected by this scandal Diesel Gate?
VW group has said that due to the installation of defeat device, 11 million vehicles were affected globally, out of which only 5 million vehicles were purely badged as VW. Audi and Skoda have used the same device and became a member of this dreadful cheat with millions of vehicles under Audi and Skoda badges.
Audi model line affected include the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, all new Audi TT, the Q3 and the Q5 series, where only Germany has claimed 500,000 affected cars and U.S has claimed 13,000 Audis.
The VW group says in a statement, “As previously announced, all new VW Passenger Car brand vehicles that fulfil the EU6 norm valid throughout Europe are not affected. This therefore also includes the current Golf, Passat and Touran diesel engine models.”
Although Volkswagen has not apologised yet but said that they are conducting an investigation to find the facts. On the other hand, the US boss of VW Michael Horn has officially apologised and confirmed a recall of 480,000 vehicles.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has said that just because of VW cheated the world, it does not mean that the entire industry is cheated to its customers. At a conference about air quality, speaking to the audiences, chief executive of the SMMT, Mike Hawes said that customers are correct to be worried about the event, but we must not blame the entire industry for the actions of one unit. It would very dreadful to punish entire diesel segment.
Current diesel cars are cleanest ever and producing more than 92% lower nitrogen oxide gases, compared to earlier diesel engines. This contribution to the air quality must not be ignored at all.
