The world was taken aback when the news spread that the Dubai Police Department has established a whole squad of supercars like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Lamborghini Aventador, Mercedes-Benz AMG, Ferrari, Aston Martin One-77 and many more.
Dubai police General Director of smart services, Colonel Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, has recently made an announcement regarding their new test program that includes running facial recognition software through the use of Google Glass. The officers in the supercars squad will be the ones first going to get yet another hi-tech gadget on their disposal.
He further clarified, “One will allow them to take photos of traffic violations from the Glass, which will go instatntly into our system, the other application helps identify wanted cars. We at Dubai Police always try to adopt what is new in the market and we like to stay up-to-date.”
This program will utilise custom developed apps for Google Glass where one of them will enable officers to upload the photos of any scofflaws in traffic and the other will notify the officers whenever they find any license plate which is in trouble with the law.
Many of the law enforcement agencies and forces all over the world are using license plate recognition software for quite some time now but they don’t have the Google Glass with them.
Now as you look at the Dubai Police force, having all top class high tech gadgets and a whole fleet of ultra-modern supercars as pursuit vehicles, does it remind you of any super cop? Yes, exactly, the RoboCop – becoming a reality.
