Facelifted BMW X3 is now available around the globe and it features the most modern B-Series BMW engines. These engines are likely to be powering the entire X3 line-up. It doesn’t come as a surprise that X3 is getting ‘M’ treatment because it recorded the highest sales of the year. The X3 also faces a tough time and is only overshadowed in popularity by its smaller yet cheaper fellows such as X1, 3-Series and 5-Series, each of them is unbeatable in their respective segments.
There are rumours that the new cohort is planned with drastic changes and in 2017; it will be re-coded as G01. The new model will use the 35up platform that is specific for the special models from 3-Series.
The new B-Series engine family consists of all 3, 4, and six cylinder engines to offer more muscular push and reduced emissions. The power boost from B-Series will be of around 15-20 hp and twisting boost of 20lb-ft, though it is not very huge but crucial in some cases.
BMW also plans to develop an M40i model as a part of the M Performance Automobile division, paired with a 360 hp six inline cylinder engine which is already serving M2.
That would mean that the X3 would have an M Performance Automobile. The X3 M is not as stipulated and sought after as the M2 so it certainly isn’t a main concern and won’t be in the near future either.
