Mercedes-Benz has always invented new technologies which make driving easier and full of fun

Mercedes-Benz is going to debut its latest invention, the MULTIBEAM LED headlight technology on the upcoming CLS-Class in 2015. It isn’t very different from Audi’s Matrix LED headlights in working as both uses multiple LEDs for higher precision lighting while on high beam, but with the biggest benefit of not upsetting the approaching traffics vision.

It has always been pretty annoying when the upcoming driver leaves his high beam on but now when the cars will be equipped with this new technology, these high beamed lights would not hurt anyone anymore. It would be a pity that the U.S. market would not be able to enjoy the fruits of these wonderful lights as the state rules are fairly strict for headlights This same rule applies to the Audi” Matrix LED because they are not offered locally.

We wonder what exactly these MULTIBEAM LED headlights are and how they work. Each of these headlight modules consist of 24 LEDs which are controlled individually, it enables the driver to drive on high beam without dazzling the upcoming driver. The most wonderful characteristic of this headlight is that it is capable of illuminating all by itself, yet providing precision-controlled distribution of high-beam on light’s path.

There is a camera positioned right behind the windscreen, providing the necessary information to four control units which then adjusts the light pattern to an ideal setting at 100 times per second. If it encounters an upcoming vehicle or a vehicle in front, the headlights will mechanically mask the LEDs out of the light pattern of main beam so it wouldn’t bother drivers.

The low beam mode has four LEDs in it, so when the camera detects a bend coming up, the lights will swivel outward to almost twelve degrees. It will light up the bend for better vision, even before the driver turns the wheel. It even has a navigation based mode which works on roundabouts, turning the lights to left and right for better visibility.
