What are the three universal constants? One is the speed of light, second the arrow of time and the third one is: horrible crashes of muscle cars by their owners. And most surprisingly, these kind of news spread over the internet like wildfire in the Amazon, and this makes the owners a serious thought about the safety of their muscle cars. To comfort their valued customers and save their precious life, the 2015 Ford Mustang is now equipped with glovebox knee airbag and seven others.
Well the new Mustang is fully equipped with eight airbags instead of four, featured in the 2014 Mustang. The most brilliant of them all is the newly invented knee airbag on the passenger side, it has been put under the glovebox lid to save the space and designed in such a way that it doesn’t look odd. Surprisingly, Ford Motor Company has been granted as much as 15 new patents for this innovative knee airbag.
Taking an entire airbag and putting it into the slim plastic panel is no child’s play but when it comes to Ford, everything is possible. What Ford opted for is an entirely new and absolutely different method as they have gone for an inflatable plastic bladder rather than the typical fibre one and put it into the glovebox door. So when it detects an impact, the airbag is triggered, the entire glovebox outer panel extends towards passenger’s knees, offering much needed protection.
All of these eight airbags are scattered around the vehicle and work absolutely marvellous with the stronger bodyshell of this new Mustang. They are all aided by crash sensors and additional pre-tensioning safety belt technology, when all combined together, form one of the most sophisticated safety setup Ford has ever introduced. The Active safety improvements consists of Ford MyKey which limits top speed, audio volume and the new high-intensity discharge headlamps aiding night drive.
